BRAEMAR DIAMOND CORE DRILLS
Braemar diamond core drills can be made with natural or synthetic diamonds, sieved to the desired grit size, mixed with a metal matrix and bonded to a steel core. The depth of diamond is usually 1/4", or 3/8", other depth sizes can be made upon request. Concentration is a measure of the amount of diamond used in the diamond core drill. A 100% concentration drill would contain 25 volume percent diamond or approximately .72 cts. Per cubic inch. Most of our drills are made with synthetic diamonds that are uniform in grit, shape, and size ; than natural diamonds. Diamond size can range from 60/80 to 270/320 grit. Coarser grit sizes are used for faster stock removal without much concern for surface finish.
RECOMMENDED EQUIPMENT
The basic equipment required is a ridged true running, vibration-free drill press that can turn the proper R.p.m.'s. Milling machines are preferred because the firm base and a true running spindle with bigger and better bearings. The workplace should be securely held in position with a fixture, vacuum, glue, or mounting wax. A Water or coolant source is preferred for a chip free holes and increased tool life.
COOLANT
Coolant is as important as the diamond core drill itself. Coolant serves two purposes: First to keep the drill and workplace cool: And second, to flush away the abraded materials and particles that could wear the core drill. The ideal coolant flow is through the center of the core. When the coolant pressure is to high the work area will not get the cooling effect, resulting in heat damage of your core drill and water swivel. The practice of "squirting" coolant onto a workplace and drill point is utterly useless. We recommend the following coolant flow pressures: .040" - .200" diameter 70/90 psi for .250" - .500" diameter 40/60, and for 1.00" diameters 20/30 psi. As a rule, the smaller the core drill the greater the coolant pressure should be.
DRILL SPEEDS
Experience has taught us through the years that there is not a set speed for diamond drilling. Drill speeds depends on the material, the operator, the pressure and other variables. We recommend a variable speed control for the drill press. The operator will soon determine the best speed for a specific job. The smaller the drill the faster the speed.
PRECISION WATER SWIVELS
Our water swivels are manufactured with pressure-sealed ball bearings, precision machined stainless steel spindles, and light weight aluminumbodies. All swivels are made with precision ground shafts for ultimate performance and longevity. Special size swivels can be made upon request.
PRECISION DIAMOND DUAL CORE DRILLS
Braemar diamond dual core drills are made with the quality and precision as our standard core drills. We have the expertise to hold tolerances on both the inner and outer core drills. These drills can be a great advantage when your parts require a specific ID and OD dimension. We do have some limitations on dual core drills, call for more information.
