Segmented Diamond Core Drills are engineered for large-diameter drilling where stability, cooling efficiency, and debris evacuation are essential. When drill sizes exceed 6.000” in diameter, the cutting rim is manufactured as individual diamond segments. These segments improve cutting performance, reduce heat, and maintain consistent penetration on hard, brittle, and high-value materials.
Braemar USA customizes the number of segments, gullet spacing, bond structure, and diamond concentration to match your exact drilling environment. We understand that many large-diameter drilling jobs cannot be performed under ideal conditions. Machines may have limited speed control, restricted coolant flow, or inconsistent rigidity. Because of this, we adjust bond hardness, diamond concentration, and segment geometry to help you achieve optimum performance—even when conditions are less than perfect.
Standard segment depths are 3/8″ or 1/2″, with custom depths available on request. For large segmented drills above 6.000”, typical wall thickness ranges from 0.100″ to 0.187″. Common mounting threads include 7/8-14, 1-14, 1-1/2-12, and 2-1/2-12. Additional connection styles can be supplied for specialized systems or custom rigs.
Multiple diamond segments are separated by gullets to:
Improve debris and swarf evacuation
Reduce heat buildup during long cuts
Maintain faster and more stable cutting action
Minimize friction on soft or brittle materials
Adjustable segment count
Custom gullet width and spacing
Variable bond hardness
Tailored diamond concentration
Optimized for Large Diameters – Designed specifically for drills 6.000” and larger, with accurate balance and stable cutting.
Better Cooling and Heat Control – Gullets and internal water-feed systems help reduce thermal shock and extend tool life.
Longer Segment Durability – Thick, reinforced diamond segments maintain cutting efficiency under heavy load.
Improved Stability – Segmented design reduces side friction and helps maintain straight, accurate coring.
Adaptable to Poor Machine Conditions – Braemar can modify bonds and diamond concentrations to compensate for limited spindle power, poor coolant delivery, or inconsistent feed rates.
Braemar USA Segmented Diamond Core Drills are widely used for:
Coring large quartz ingots
Coring large ceramic blocks
Large-diameter holes in technical glass
Precision coring of sapphire, fused silica, and specialty materials
Industrial and production-scale material removal
Field work and non-ideal machining environments
