Diamond Grading and Shapes

Diamonds, whether natural or manmade, are formed when carbon is exposed to extreme heat and pressure. Natural diamonds vary widely in quality, color, shape, and size. Their quality can range from flawless, crack-free crystals to lower-grade material used only as diamond powder.

Diamond shapes are typically classified as dodecahedron, octahedron, elongated, points, flats, triangular (macle), round (ballas), cubes, and irregular forms. The shapes shown here represent the most commonly used in industrial and tool applications.

Braemar offers a wide selection of diamond sizes, shapes, and grades to suit most applications. For custom tools—where diamond quality and shape are critical—our specialists carefully select the most appropriate diamonds to meet your specific needs.
